Imperial War Museum

Well, the title of the blog is a little bit of a lie because I am going to talk first about what I did on Monday.  I had class from 10-4 and than wrote a paper.
Now, moving on to the fun stuff.  Today we didn't have class, just like every other Tuesday this semester.  So, we did a little bit of traveling in London.  We first went to find the only Chipotle in Europe.  It was up near Tottem Court Road.  Piccadilly to Leicester Square and then one stop north on the Northern line.  It is a lot like the Chipotle in the states, but some differences, such as portion size, cheese, sour cream and no fountain pop.  We met the man who opened this Chipotle and he guessed we were from Minnesota.  It was pretty cool to talk to him about the whole business thing.  He was the regional manager of all the Chipotle's in Chicago before he was moved here.  He came and opened this one and at the end of the summer one in Paris will be opening.  Last weekend he was in Germany looking at places to start one there.  Should be interesing to see how fast, if at all, it takes off in Europe.  Anyways, after this we headed down the Northern Line to Charing Cross and then transfered to the Bakerloo Line where we continued to head south until we reached Lambeth North.  It is here were we went to the Imperial War Museum.  This museum was amazing.  It was huge and had stuff from tanks to missiles, submarines to guns and exhibits.  We started off just looking at the main room in the museum which had a ton of stuff on display.
As you walk in and look up this is what you see.

Car that was hit with a bomb in Baghdad in 2007.

Tank.

Airplane used in WWII

Gun used in WWII on the battlefields.

We also saw a Auschwitz Museum.  Couldn't take any pictures in it but it was more on the rise of Hitler than the actual Auschwitz camp.  It did have a cool model layout of what it looked like.  After this we walked through a couple other exhibits such as the Children War's.  It was WWII shown through eyes of children.  It was sad to see how it was portrayed.  We then went to the WWI part of the museum.  They had a replica of what it would be like in a trench during WWI.  Very cool to see how it was.  They had sounds playing that simulated gun shots, bombs, and other things.  I loved it, Libbie was a little claustrophobic.
Showing the width of the trench.  Not much more than the figure they had in it.  The figures looked very realistic.

Libbie being claustrophobic. I meant to show the height of the trench.

Break room.  It wasn't much of a break room but it was better than being in the trench.

Figure looking through a hole to see if the enemy was coming.  He was standing on a box of bullets so the trench was relatively high.

Men giving support fire.

The medics room.  Not very big at all.

Anyways, tomorrow we have class and than a break for a while before we go to theater class.  However, in theater class tomorrow we go and see a play.

Cheers

Jimmy
